Dekorte, Katerberg to appear in court this fall

A former principal and a former pastor of the Elora Road Christian Fellowship and School are expected to appear in court for hearings this fall.

In January, both were charged in connection with alleged sexual assaults in the 1980s.

Former principal Arend “John” Dekorte of Fergus was charged with two counts of sexual assault on a child under the age of 16 and Henry (Henk) Katerberg of Guelph-Eramosa was charged with one count of sexual assault on a child under 16.

Dekorte was a teacher at the school and Katerberg, the founder of the church, was a pastor at the time of the alleged assaults.

Police say the “alleged sexually-related offences against minors” took place between 1981 and 1986 at the church and school, which are located on the same property on Wellington Road 7 north of Guelph.

Earlier this year both men told the Wellington Advertiser the allegations were unsubstantiated.

“I’m completely innocent,” Dekorte told the Advertiser on Jan. 17.

“I have not done the thing I’m accused of.”

The same day Katerberg said, “There is not one ounce of truth in this whole story … it’s absolutely not true.”

After numerous court dates in the months since the charges were laid, Dekorte and Katerberg are scheduled to appear in court this fall for focus and preliminary hearings.
