Fergus welcomes film production
Burlington filmmaker Bruce Locke returned to Fergus late last week with cast and crew to complete the filming of BVA Television’s feature film Struggle.
The production company was in Fergus two weeks ago to shoot several scenes, and had planned to continue in Montreal.
Cooperation from local businesses and residents made Locke feel so at home that he decided to return to Fergus, instead of doing the planned shoot in Montreal.
Provost Lane was closed for several hours this past Thursday with the aid of the town and Fergus police. The remaining scene of the film, which included a hearse on loan from the Graham Giddy Funeral Home, was completed well within the allotted time.
Production manager Karen Van Viegen, a Fergus resident, is looking into the possibility of having the film’s premiere held in the Fergus-Elora area.
Elora gets greener
The Elora Centre for Environmental Excellence is offering advice on cutting home energy use.
“Book a green home visit with one of our house doctors, Mike Hintermeister or Don Eaton,” ECEE says in an ad.
The group has also established the “Good Earth Keeping Award” to be given out four times a year. Nominations are invited for any individual or group in Elora, Fergus, West Garafraxa, Nichol or Pilkington demonstrating a commitment to the environment, including the 4 R’s (Recycle, Reduce, Reuse, Refuse). The award includes a hand crafted, recycled glass suncatcher. The presentation of the award will take place at the Centre on Earth Day, April 22, 1995.
