According to the federal government’s Canadian Dairy Information Centre, there are 12,529 dairy farms with milk shipments in Canada.
The centre also states that those farms boast 959,100 dairy cows and 468,600 dairy heifers.
Quebec is the most prolific province in terms of dairy production, with just under 6,200 farms, over 356,000 cows and 163,500 heifers.
Ontario has almost 4,100 farms, just under 318,000 cows and over 170,000 heifers.
Dairy farms number 585 in Alberta, 491 in BC, 332 in Manitoba, 237 in Nova Scotia, 214 in New Brunswick, 193 in PEI, 172 in Saskatchewan and 33 in Newfoundland.
