Centre Wellington District High School’s senior boys' basketball team captured the District 10 championship on Feb. 18 at the University of Guelph.
The Falcons defeated the Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute Gaels 58-53. This is the first senior boys' basketball D10 team win in the history of the school. Cole Newton was named MVP of the game, scoring 27 points.
“This win was a long time in coming and this season we have a strong team that were able to secure our first D10 title,” said coach Jeff Brubacher.
“It is a tribute to the group of dedicated student-athletes we have on our team.”
The Falcons now move on to the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association (CWOSSA) championship on Feb. 24 and 25 in Waterloo.
NOTE: CWDHS girls won the D10 championship in 2010 and 2011.
