Centre Wellington District High School has recognized 18 students making a difference in the school and the community in its first 18 under 18 recognition.
Emma Nankivell
Congratulations to Emma Nankivell. As well as being an athlete and a scholar, Emma started her own clothing line and was part of the International Global Leadership Summit. Emma was nominated by several staff and students because of her leadership skills and her willingness to help others and demonstrate positive behaviour by being a good role model for her peers.
Anika May
Anika May is a community builder and a real business person. She, along with two friends, owns Radical Tye Dye which donates to and raises awareness for several mental health charities. Anika is very caring and selfless who demonstrates these qualities when she volunteers with her church and at her recent mission trip to Swaziland.
Stanley Sinclair
Stanley Sinclair is an innovator, scholar, and community builder at CW! He is a Link leader with a positive attitude and is always volunteering when needed. Stanley is known around the school hallways because he is always bright and cheerful. He is also a DECA participant and works part-time downtown. Stanley was nominated by many staff and students because he is a bright light who has a way of making everybody’s day!
Ben Wylde
Congratulations to Ben Wylde! Ben is a real community builder at CW. He has positive energy and a joyous spirit. Ben is responsible for the CW song of the day and also represents us at the Special Olympics. At home, Ben loves to watch movies as well as write movie scripts. Ben is very helpful at home as well as in the library. We often hear him coming before we see him. Way to go Ben Wylde!
Cameron Hadfield
Cameron Hadfield is an artist, a business person and a real innovator. Cameron has an infectious love of coding. His skill at software development and virtual reality has led to interest from software developers such as HTC and Google. He is an entrepreneur who owns his own business but also has a great sense of humour, is a caring individual, and an all around nice guy.
Ethan Sittlington
Congratulations to Ethan Sittlington. Ethan is a member of the Team Canada junior cycling team who is looking to turn pro. Ethan was selected to Team Ontario for the Men’s Junior Team Pursuit for which they won gold. This year, Ethan was also selected to Team Ontario for Le Tour L’Abitibi, a week long stage race in Quebec. Ethan not only represented Canada at Junior Track Worlds in Italy this summer, he gives back to his sport by coaching and mentoring young riders. Ethan works hard to maintain his training, school, and a part-time job. He does all this while demonstrating a positive spirit and a can-do attitude.
Noelle Morris
Congratulations to Noelle Morris. Noelle is a member of Student Council and participates in a range of athletic activities at CWDHS: cross country, volleyball and track and field. She is sincere and kind. Noelle is able to look beyond herself to consider the thoughts, feelings and needs of others; recently, she was part of a student group that traveled to Peru as a mission trip.
Kenna Winget
Kenna Winget is a scholar, athlete, fundraiser and community builder. She excels in her studies and is a multi-sport athlete participating in field hockey, rugby and wrestling. Kenna volunteers as a wrestling coach for Elora and J.D. Hogarth public schools. She has also helped to organize multiple fundraisers to raise money and awareness for cancer (DIPG).
Jenna Tofflemire
Jenna Tofflemire believes in change for the betterment of our community and works to make it so. She is involved in a wide variety of clubs at school including: Friendship Club, Environmental Club, Social Justice Club, Amnesty International and We Club. Jenna has participated on a variety of CW’s Sports teams and is an active member of Student Council. Jenna is also the CW Representative for Student Senate. Thank you, Jenna, for your contributions to our school.
Eric Morris
Eric Morris is a talented athlete and leader on the CW cross country and track and field teams. He builds community at school with his “Friday Funny” and thought-provoking questions each Monday on the announcements. Eric is also an active leader in his church working with the “Wild Life” program for Grade 6 to 8 students. Additionally, he traveled to Peru in November for a mission opportunity.
Jade Ritter
Jade Ritter is an incredibly well-rounded individual. At school, she is involved in Theatre Centre Wellington, the CW Choir, Deca, Link Crew and runs the cash for Cafe La Ruche. Jade assists for school events such as Gr. 7/8 Night and Gr. 8 Transition Days. She is a two-time Skills Canada Gold medalist and has received a list of subject awards for her impressive academics. Jade also volunteers outside of school at Lakeside Church, Alma Bible Church and the library. Additionally, she has won awards for 4H and was honoured to be the Wellington County Princess of the Furrow 2016-17.
Calum Offer
Calum Offer is a kind and helpful person who leads by positive example inside and outside of the classroom. He plays on the CW soccer and ultimate frisbee teams and is also involved in Skills Canada, Theatre Centre Wellington and a local theatre group. Throughout the school year Calum also tutors for Fergus Educational Services. Calum stands up for what he believes in and does what is right. Congratulations, Calum!
Nathan Vanderstoep
Nathan Vanderstoep is described as kind, good, supportive, and having an extremely positive attitude. He is a community builder, artist, athlete, and people noticer. Through his random acts of kindness, his community involvement, his support of friends in hard times, and his sick dance moves, he makes CW a better place!
Rebecca Good
Rebecca Good is quietly kind to students in the life skills class, and volunteers her time within the community. She has made strong bonds with those she works with. Other students light up when she is around, she is so genuine. Rebecca has overcome many hurdles after a terrible car accident and is persevering to continue her education in the helping profession.
Jailyn Lochert
Jailyn Lochert is kind, thoughtful, and helpful. She is a leader, and a hard worker. Despite facing disappointment when the senior girls basketball team was canceled she rose to the challenge of helping to coach the junior girls team, where she developed her leadership skills and helped to support and mentor others. She is a talented athlete and coach.
Samantha Mills
Perseverance, integrity, and resilience are words used to describe Samantha Mills. She has managed to overcome many personal challenges to become a highly engaged and community driven student in the school. She is always hungry for challenges, and is both a leader and a support for struggling students. She also works at a kennel and shows the same compassion and love for animals that she does for people.
Tristan Parker
Tristan Parker is polite, helpful, and kind. He is a passionate and determined student with a brilliant mind for business and computers, and will be representing CW at Deca. He volunteers his time at a local church and runs a full online international business called Exasource.
Madison Galloway
Madison Galloway is a very talented and dedicated musician. She shows her dedication to her craft by performing, attending conferences, creating new songs, and working at The Grand radio station, and volunteering to play for charities. Madison is opinionated in regards to world issues and is passionate about helping the environment. As a guitar teacher she inspires young musicians to pursue their love of music too.
