CWCC celebrates Awards of Excellence

The Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce presented the annual business and community Awards of Excellence on May 17. The tent was put up and the red carpet rolled out in front of the Fergus Grand Theatre to welcome sponsors, nominees and guests.

“We sincerely thank our major sponsors OLG and Scotiabank, our 14 Diamond sponsors who presented the awards, along with our four Emerald and 20 Sapphire sponsors,” said Kira Bailey, chamber president. “The theme this year was Superheroes of Centre Wellington and we had Captain America, Batgirl, Batman, Clark Kent, and a few miscellaneous superheroes too. It is wonderful to celebrate so many amazing local businesses and individuals.”

Fourteen awards were handed out for excellence achieved in 2015.  The winners were: Glenirvine Farms for Agriculture Agri-Business; Elora Brewing Co for Business Beautification-Heritage; Libby Carlaw for Citizen of the Year, Fergus Elora Rotary Club for Community Social Responsibility, Zehrs Markets for Corporate Citizen; Grand River Outfitting & Fly Shop Inc. for Cultural, Arts, Tourism Impact; Fraberts Fresh Food for Customer Service Excellence; Wrighthaven Homes Limited for Environmental Excellence; Polycorp Ltd. for Business of the Year 10+ employees; Noecker Travel Ltd. for Business of the Year less than 10 employees; Simon Davies of Aquarius Water Treatment & Plumbing Service for Tradesperson of the Year; Elora Bread Trading Co. for Young Entrepreneur of the Year; Bianca Smith for Youth Citizen of the Year; Jane Cooper was awarded the President’s Award.

Long service awards were also given to businesses which have operated in Centre Wellington for 25 Years: Wrighthaven Homes Limited, Protector Security & Locksmith Corp., Thak Ironworks, Dr. Jon Gatten, The Walser Tradition, Sterling Promotions Inc. and North Wellington Massage Therapy Clinic.  Forty-year recipients recognized were: Blue Pine Janitorial Service Inc., George Kuipers, Wood Worker, Robert Brown Masonry Ltd. and White’s Amco Service.

General manager, Roberta Scarrow said, “A sincere thank you to the committee members and the volunteers that help prove once again that Centre Wellington is a fabulous place to live and work.”

Nomination process

The chamber looks forward to hosting this event again next year.  Nominations are open to any business, resident or young person within the boundaries of Centre Wellington.

It is not a requirement to be a chamber member for nomination in any category.
