Rural high speed internet customers from all over Wellington County will be affected by changes to their services with Barrett Xplore Inc. (BXI) taking over the bankrupt Everus Communications.
There are a number of people affected. They are located in a number of municipalities in Wellington County and BXI has released a list of them.
Town of Minto:
– 33 customers, mostly in a mobile home park;
– 1 affected tower in that area; and
– they only short term option from BIX will be satellite service.
Wellington North:
– 46 customers;
– 2 impacted towers; and
– the only short term option will be satellite service.
Mapleton:
– 83 customers;
– 2 impacted towers; and
– the company has already successfully moved 13 of those customers to other wireless towers. It is working on more site surveys to see if it can get more converted to other wireless sites; and
– satellite service will be needed for most of those customers near Conestoga Lake.
Centre Wellington
– 161 customers;
– 4 impacted towers; and
– the company has already successfully moved 17 customers to other wireless towers and is working on more site surveys to see if it can obtain signals from alternate sites; and
– satellite will be needed for most of those near Alma.
Guelph Eromosa:
– 42 customers;
– 1 impacted tower; and
– some potential to hit other wireless towers. Site surveys are in process.
