Curling with family and friends

Family affair – The Fergus Curling Club held its inaugural Friends and Family Night on Feb. 18, when club members were encouraged to bring their friends and family along to learn the basics of curling and then play a game against another team of newbies with support from club members. They learned the basic rules of the game, some on-ice safety, how to throw a rock and how to sweep. They finished up with a brief game and then headed into the club for some food, drinks and good times with friends and family. The response was great overall with two full draws of 32 players – 64 players in all – plus a few others who came to watch and volunteer. The club plans to hold these events regularly leading up to their yearly Curling 101 course that takes place each October. All you need to play is a pair of clean shoes that were never worn outside, comfortable clothes and optional headgear.
