Curl for a Cause raises $56,000 for local charities

Curl For A Cause chairman Bruce Hawkins considers the 13th annual event a tremendous success.

On March 24, 96 curlers gathered at the Fergus Curling Club for a day of curling, food and silent auction.

“This year was our most successful year in terms of fundraising. We raised $56,303 – over $11,000 more than last year – making our 13-year total to be $442,458,” said Hawkins.

Funds will be distributed to six local charities: KidsAbility, The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington, Fergus-Elora Special Needs Soccer, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington, The Centre Wellington Food Bank and Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis.

Organizers are grateful to the many business owners who purchased advertising or donated items for the auctions and to the curlers who collected over $36,000.
