WELLINGTON COUNTY – The January 2021 theme for Crime Stoppers Month is Helping All Communities Stay Safe.
This is such a great vision for 2021 as we are working hard to keep our communities in the City of Guelph and County of Wellington safe, both in public health and in crime reporting and resolution.
To mark this occasion and in keeping with the community theme, we are proud to announce The CSGW Series. This is an online webinar series where you can learn more about Crime Stoppers and some of its partners from the comfort of your own home via Zoom.
Each segment begins at 7pm and, best of all, it is free. On Jan. 14, join us for Crime Stoppers From The Beginning with Cal Millar, journalist, author and colleague of Detective Greg MacAleese who created Crime Stoppers. He’ll offer insights on the case in New Mexico in 1976 that resulted in Crime Stoppers being developed. Learn more about that first case and how the concept grew into a global crime fighting initiative.
On Jan. 21, “CSGW Supporting Victims” is the topic as CSGW shares the platform with Liz Kent of Victim Services Wellington. Liz works directly with victims of crime and knows how helpful it is for a victim and their family to know a crime has been resolved. You may not think there is a connection between Crime Stoppers and Victim Services, but there is in fact a strong one.
Finally, on Jan. 28, the topic is Preventing Cyber Crime Against Youth.
Join CSGW to understand the pitfalls that await young people online with Detective Constable Hugh Currie of Guelph Police Service. DC Currie works in Internet Child Exploitation and sees firsthand how parents and youth can understand and avoid the traps being laid in social media and online gaming. This will be a must-see for parents and youth alike! Pre-registration is required and can be done by going to Eventbrite and searching The CSGW Series or using this link: http://bit.ly/3nnHYau.
