CENTRE WELLINGTON – Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington and Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue are partnering on a new fundraiser for Crime Stoppers.
And if you know a child who loves fire trucks, this may appeal to them.
For a minimum $10 donation to Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington, your name will be entered in a draw for your special young person to be an honorary Youth Fire Chief for a Day.
The winning child gets:
- an honorary chief’s shirt;
- a tour of the Centre Wellington fire hall;
- a tour of Centre Wellington’s municipal office;
- lunch with the real fire chief;
- skills training with fire equipment; and
- swag bags from Crime Stoppers and the fire service.
The winner will also be featured in media and social media posts.
The contest is open to children 12 and under and if the winner is under 10, they must be accompanied by an adult on the big day.
“This is the first time we’re doing this,” said Crime Stoppers program coordinator Sarah Bowers-Peter.
“We were looking to do something different, and this helps highlight the role young people can have in the community.”
Donations can be made online at www.csgw.tips between March 13 and 31.
The draw takes place on April 2, and the prize will be awarded April 11 or 12, depending on availability of the winner and fire chief.
To enter, visit www.cwgw.tips, select “donate now” and use a secure payment option to donate. One entry per $10 donation.
If using PayPal, your information will automatically be provided for the draw. If using a credit card, be sure to add an email address so you can be notified if you are the winner, organizers state.
“Fundraising is a key component of Crime Stoppers,” said Bowers-Peter.
“As a charitable organization, the program needs to raise funds to ensure that rewards can be paid, and the program can operate. This is what makes the support of the fire department so special.”
Crime Stoppers board chair Dave Elloway called the contest “a unique way to support Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington while learning some practical fire safety skills and having fun.”
He added, “We appreciate the ongoing support of Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue, especially with this youth-focused fundraiser that works toward our joint goal of making our community a safer place.”
“It’s a great opportunity to work together and showcase what the fire department does behind the scenes as it is not all about lights and sirens,” added deputy fire chief Jason Benn.
“We look forward to meeting our new temporary fire chief and sharing the day together.”
