Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) presented 19 awards in three different categories on May 9, at the annual Friends of the Credit conservation awards held here.
There were winners from Erin.
For more than 20 years, CVC has presented awards to: individuals; landowners; community groups; small businesses; corporations; municipalities; and, agencies that have made a significant contribution to managing natural resources in the Credit Valley Watershed.
Through these awards, the CVC’s board of directors celebrates the important work done across the watershed which helps to ensure its long-term environmental health.
The awards were presented for: Award of Distinction; Young Conservationist; and, Certificate of Merit.
The Wellington county award winners included Everpure Biodiesel Co-operative from Erin, for creating Ontario’s first farmer-based biodiesel co-operative, a self-sustaining innovative enterprise generating cleaner, renewable and locally produced fuel. It won a Certificate of Merit award.
Merrilla Gagnon, of Erin, won a Certificate of Merit for increasing environmental awareness of Brisbane Public School by coordinating a large-scale schoolyard greening project, involving parents, teachers, students and volunteers.
