Credit Valley Conservation awards announced

Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) presented 19 awards in three different categories on May 9, at the annual Friends of the Credit conservation awards held here.

There were winners from Erin.

For more than 20 years, CVC has presented awards to: individuals; landowners; com­mu­­nity groups; small business­es; corporations; municipali­ties; and, agencies that have made a significant contribution to managing natural resources in the Credit Valley Watershed.

Through these awards, the CVC’s board of directors cele­brates the important work done across the wat­ershed which helps to ensure its long-term environ­mental health.

The awards were presented for: Award of Distinction; Young Conservationist; and, Certificate of Merit.

The Wellington county award winners included Ever­pure Biodiesel Co-operative from Erin, for creating Onta­rio’s first farmer-based biodies­el co-operative, a self-sustain­ing innovative enterprise generating cleaner, renewable and locally produced fuel. It won a Certificate of Merit award.

Merrilla Gagnon, of Erin, won a Certificate of Merit for increasing environmental aware­ness of Brisbane Public School by coordinating a large-scale schoolyard greening pro­ject, involving parents, teach­ers, students and volunteers.
