Cox-Stormes pit near Palmerston is finally approved by Minto

The Cox-Stormes pit near Palmerston finally has council’s blessing.

On July 8, council reviewed correspondence from planner Mark Van Patter who noted the new gravel pit is to be located just north of the community, next to the rail trail.

Van Patter had provided detailed comments to council in January and May. He noted the proposal required combined official plan and zoning bylaw amendments. A public meeting was held in February, and comments at that time asked for a traffic impact study and another look at the impact to the trail and nearby wooded areas.

“These issues were resolved in my May 14 letter,” Van Patter said. He said an additional issue arose about potential noise impact to a residence on the Third Line.

That issue was resolved by the applicant, Van Patter wrote. “I no longer have any concerns with the application, and am recommending approval of the draft zoning bylaw.”

The matter was dealt with later that meeting, with the zoning amendment to switch the zoning from agricultural to extractive industrial.

The property is located at Part Lot 22, Concession 2.

Mayor David Anderson said the approval is the “end of a long road. This is the one that seals it.”
