ABOYNE – A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the Wellington Terrace Long-Term Care Home, with up to five employees testing positive.
Facility officials stated in an April 3 press release that during weekly testing “one employee tested positive and four employees received results indicating low levels of the virus.”
The employees, currently asymptomatic and in isolation at home, will be retested.
They work in different departments so the cases do not appear to be connected, officials stated.
“Out of an abundance of caution, Wellington Terrace has now been placed into a facility-wide outbreak status,” they added.
Families of Wellington Terrace residents have been notified of the situation and the facility is working with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) on contact tracing.
Wellington Terrace employees are tested every seven days as per Ministry of Health directives, officials say, and residents showing “even the slightest evidence of a health change” are “immediately tested for COVID-19.”
To date, there has not been any COVID-19 positive cases in the resident population at Wellington Terrace.
