County seeks full-time day care facility

Efforts continue to find a permanent facility for children displaced by the recent closure of the Willowdale child care centre in Guelph.

Wellington County Warden Chris White told the press following a closed session of county council on May 23 that the county is still looking for a permanent home for the 55 children affected by the closure when asbestos was discovered in the building.

The county operated the centre and the building is owned by the City of Guelph.

White said the county is exploring “multiple options” for a new facility.

“The children are being accommodated,” he said, referring to county staff efforts to find short-term day care for the children.

He said county officials are hoping to find a location in close proximity to the Willowdale location.
