County council has, after a closed session, reiterated it support for municipalities when it comes to the planning process for approving wind turbines.
Wellington County was among those that actually completed a policy for accepting wind turbines.
However, shortly after it was completed, the provincial government passed the Green Energy Act, and stripped municipalities of the right to do their normal planning approvals process. The province took the powers for itself.
Minister of Environment and Perth Wellington MPP John Wilkinson said the province did that because many municipalities struggled with the process and the province favoured one set of rules for everyone. Warden Chris White made the announcement of the letter after the closed session.
