KENILWORTH – Wellington County’s Accessibility Fund Incentive will help make the Mount Forest Roy Grant Pool more accessible to the community.
On July 22, Wellington North councillors reviewed a letter from the county indicating funds requested for the pool – for a portable chair lift and resurfacing of the entrance – have been approved.
The township will receive $10,000 for the project.
The municipality is required to submit a project summary report to the accessibility advisory committee within two months of project completion.
CAO Mike Givens pointed to community recreation coordinator Mandy Jones as “the champion of this application.”
Jones was excited to share the news, explaining the pool was constructed in the late 1950s and has undergone a number of expansions since that time.
However, she said there are limitations as guests are required to enter the pool with lifeguard support on the stairs or ladders.
“The lift will allow guests the opportunity to use the pool barrier free,” said Jones.
“The Roy Grant pool is highly used during the summer months and has provided the community with years of enjoyment. In addition, because of [the chair lift’s] portability we will be able to move this asset (to the new pool) in the future.”
