When Flight Support held a charity golf tournament this year, it was likely one of the few such events in Wellington County with support from Florida and overseas.
The aircraft parts company, though, used its international customer base and clients to help the Guelph Humane Society.
Flight Support’s Laura Bevan-Stewart said July 11 that the company held the charity golf tournament for the second year in a row, and most of its employees liked the idea of helping animals, so the Humane Society is a natural beneficiary.
“We do quite a bit for animals around the world,” she said. The event attracted 70 players, and some of them came from as far away as Florida to compete.
And in the United Kingdom, companies that do business with Flight Support sent sponsorships and prizes.
“We sell commercial aircraft parts – globally,” said Flight Support’s Tony Martin, who mentioned the company’s long term contracts with the United Kingdom Royal Airforce.
Those parts also support troupe carriers and tank fleets.
The company has been in the town about eight years. When asked why a company dealing around the world would be located on the main street of Fergus, he said, simply, “We like it here.”
Flight Support was a recent winner in the local Chamber of Commerce annual awards.
When the company photo was taken with the golf tournament trophy, there was some difficulty holding it because the Rolls Royce propeller blade on the base is a real one, and it is heavy.
Loreen Kelly, of the Guelph Humane Society, thanked the company for its donation.
She said the money will be used for the Humane Society’s spay and neuter program, and that it will help the society keep 400 animals from bringing unwanted young into the world.
“It really is very very helpful,” she said of the $4,500. “Without this kind of support, we’d be in deep doo-doo. There’s always a need for more money.”
