County economic development division wins marketing award

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The county’s economic development division has won an Economic Development Association of Canada Marketing Canada Award for a series of descriptive videos promoting local tourism.

The videos cover nine ways to experience Wellington County including: taste tours, local food, water destinations, horseback riding adventures, the exploration of natural areas, and a series of winter outings. Versions of the videos with descriptive audio were also created to ensure that individuals of all ability levels could access the content.

“These videos do an excellent job of showcasing a snapshot of the unique and authentic experiences that are available throughout our rural communities,” said Wellington County Warden Andy Lennox.

“Wellington County has something to offer visitors of all different backgrounds and abilities, and we are very happy to make this information more accessible.”

The tourism videos, along with other county materials like the Guelph-Wellington Local Food Map and Food Experience Guide, have been designed to promote the county as a down-to-earth rural destination with a wide variety of experiences to explore, states an Oct. 6 press release from the county.

“The circulation of these videos has supported many of our community’s small businesses that often see a decline in visitors and sales over the winter,” says councillor Jeff Duncan, chair of the economic development committee.

“A very big thank you to the county’s economic development team and all the participating local businesses for helping us showcase what Wellington County has to offer.”

The award-winning videos can be viewed and/or listened to on the County of Wellington’s YouTube channel and at experiencewellington.ca.
