The Wellington Terrace roof continues to leak and cause major problems, and the county’s seniors committee was ready on Nov. 9 to get more aggressive to get it fixed.
The members decided that if the company that built the building did not have the work started by Nov. 14, they would “sic Scott on them.” That would be chief administrative officer Scott Wilson.
He said on Monday International Leak and Detection, a company hired by the original builder (William Green Roofing Ltd., of Guelph), would be on site by Wednesday to halt the drips.
Wellington Terrace administrator Peter Barnes told the committee of the most recent incident, where rain leaked into the building and fused a circuit board, which instantly opened all the doors in the middle of the night.
“All the doors had to be monitored,” Barnes said of the last incident, adding that one of the supervisory staff on call was brought in for the night to oversee client safety and security.
Barnes said that circuit board has since been replaced.
The roof has been a problem since the building was opened about five years ago. William Green Ltd. had agreed to repair it at no cost to the county after some negotiations this summer.
Some committee members wondered at the delay, and speculated the company had been slow in its repairs because it was doing the work for free.
But others were upset because the roof had never been leak proof and they see it as an obligation.
Warden Chris White wondered who is paying for all the extra work and expenses caused by the leaks. Barnes said to date that has been covered by the county.
Wilson said the company was supposed to be on site on Wednesday.
A call to William Green Roofing was not returned by press time.
