Saugeen Summer Nights may be back for an encore performance in Clifford on June 17 and 18 next year.
At its meeting Nov. 3, councillors here resolved to offer The Concert Factory the opportunity to host a music concert on those dates – “subject to the receipt of a deposit deemed sufficient by the treasurer of the Town of Minto by Nov. 30, 2010.”
Treasurer Gord Duff said a staff meeting was held to discuss the issue and timetable for the following year.
Duff said time is moving on, and during the time of transition, there are deadlines coming up as well.
He said the resolution would allow the promoter to move forward “and still leave us in the driver’s seat.”
He stressed the clause is there should Minto choose to host a music concert in 2011, The Concert Factory has the first right of refusal.
“It’s not like we’re starting a new agreement, he’s chosen to exercise the option.”
Duff said if council passes the resolution, that allows The Concert Factory to exercise that option.
Mayor David Anderson said it was a good event last summer in Clifford.
“The community benefitted from it.”
“… as long as all the I’s are dotted and T’s crossed.”
Duff said the event would involve quite a few volunteers.
“Recent decisions [of council] may mean a few more volunteers are available.”
Councillor Barb Burrows asked if all outstanding issues from the previous summer concert been resolved.
“That is why we have the clause which states, as of Nov. 30.”
Councillor David Turton said this essentially amounts to the Town of Minto renting its facilities for a concert.
“Yes, we’re not putting on the concert,” Duff stressed.
Turton considered the approach fairly straight forward, akin to renting the Harriston community centre for a curling bonspiel.
“The principle of rental is good – as long as the bills are paid,” said councillor Wayne Martin.
