Council supports 30-unit Mount Forest subdivision

An application for a new 30-unit subdivision in Mount Forest is moving forward after receiving support from Wellington North council.

A planning report regarding the 1.72-hectare development on the west side of London Road North was brought to council by county officials on Dec. 4.

The subdivision consists of eight residential blocks being developed into three- and four-unit townhouses. There will be an interior cul-de-sac and a storm water management block.

There is no parkland being proposed, so the township will accept cash-in-lieu.

The report indicated the county’s official plan requires 6.5 residential units per acre and a minimum of 25 per cent affordable housing units. This development is 7.1 units per acre and is providing 100 per cent affordable housing units.

“To date the technical requirements … have been addressed or can be addressed to the satisfaction of the township and applicable public agencies through conditions of draft plan approval and the implementation of a subdivision agreement between the township and the developer,” states the report.

Mayor Andy Lennox  said, “It’s nice to see another hurdle overcome to move us down this road … (providing) greater variety for our residents in the future.”

Council supported the resolution unanimously (Sherry Burke was absent).
