Staff and councillors in Guelph-Eramosa are very pleased with the grants received by the township.
Late last month Guelph-Eramosa received $541,530 as part of the $400-million Roads and Bridges Capital Initiative, as well as $1.08-million as part of the $450-million Municipal Infrastructure Investment Initiative. The former grant will be used to help finance the township’s current ten-year roads capital budget, while the MIII grant will be used this year for reconstruction of the Fifth Line.
Mayor Chris White noted recently that about 440 municipalities applied for the MIII grants, and just under half of those got funding. He congratulated Public Works Manager Ken Gagnon for his “excellent work,” which helped secure not only the most recent funding, but also millions of dollars in the past.
Councillor Doug Breen also commended Gagnon, and said the township has received more provincial funding this year than all his previous years on council combined.
“This is very encouraging,” Breen said.
At its meeting on April 7 council approved the transfer of $540,427 from reserves to help cover the remaining costs for the Fifth Line reconstruction, which is expected to cost about $1.62-million total.
