Wellington North council has endorsed the 2018 strategic priorities project for the final year of its term.
After a strategic planning session on Dec. 18, council put forward 11 projects as priorities – on top of the 11 priorities that are already moving forward.
CAO Mike Givens presented the list of 25 items on Jan. 8, saying he broke down some of the projects presented at the strategic planning meeting into smaller priorities to get a total of 25.
“Are we going to look at all of these priorities?” asked councillor Sherry Burke.
Mayor Andy Lennox said it was a big list.
“Our staff is primarily focused on doing day-to-day activities and most of (the priorities) are above and beyond the normal day-to-day activities and so to expect to accomplish everything on this list is probably not practical,” Lennox said.
Givens said he was to meet with senior staff later in the week to discuss the list further.
“We’re going to try and work through some of the priority items and established action items associated with each of the priorities,” he said.
“I envision that we will maybe get through three or four of them at the meeting.”
Some of the identified priorities are:
– community growth plan;
– recreation master plan;
– Arthur wastewater treatment plant design and construction;
– organizational review;
– fees and charges bylaw;
– development charges bylaw;
– asset management plan;
– growth servicing master plan; and
– various community partnership capital projects.
“We have unlimited wants. We have scarce resources. We’re trying to come up with what we believe are the best allocation of those resources for our community,” said Lennox.
Council endorsed the list.
