Centre Wellington council approved an agreement on Monday that will allow some children in the area to have a free swim once a month for 20 years.
Newdon Industries Ltd. of Fergus, donated $20,000 to the township in November to celebrate its 40th anniversary in town.
The money will be used to pay for free public swimming on the first Saturday of each month for 40 children. While the donation was made and reported nearly two months ago, the township still had to create a legal agreement on how to spend the money.
Meeting in committee of the whole, councillors were unanimous in their approval that Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj and Clerk Marion Morris sign the deal.
Recreation Director Andie Goldie explained in his report to council that a reserve fund has been established by the finance department to control the funds.
Councillor Shawn Watters called the plan “an excellent program. “It’s nice to see corporate participation in this kind of endeavour.
Ross-Zuj noted that the township, once it signs the agreement, will write and thank Newdon for its generosity.
