The cost of paying local politicians in Minto dropped slightly last year.
At the March 7 meeting, treasurer Gordon Duff provided a report on council remuneration and expenses for 2016.
The report, an annual requirement under the Municipal Act, shows salary and expenses paid to members of Minto council between Dec. 1, 2015 and Nov. 30, 2016 totalled $137,675, compared to $138,088 in the previous 12 month period – a decrease of $413.
Mayor George Bridge received a base salary of $16,089 last year, plus meeting per diems of $5,915, convention and seminar expenses of $2,041 and mileage payments of $400 for a total of $24,446.
Deputy mayor Ron Faulkner received a base salary of $12,975, plus $1,885 in meeting per diems, $3,206 for convention and seminar expenses and $298 in mileage for a total of $18,365.
Payments for councillors were:
– Ron Elliott: base $10,899, per diems $6,252, conventions and seminars $6,201, mileage $854, total $24,208;
– Judy Dirksen: base $10,899, per diems $3,912, conventions and seminars $3,975, mileage $484, total $19,270;
– Dave Turton: base $10,899, per diems $2,780, conventions and seminars $3,613, mileage $548, total $17,841;
– Mary Lou Colwell: base $10,899, per diems $3,575, conventions and seminars $2,118, mileage $263, total $16,856; and
– Jean Anderson: base $10,899, per diems $4,000, conventions and seminars $1,786, mileage zero, total $16,685.
