Like it or not, winter is on its way.
With that chilling reality in mind, council recently approved a tender for the supply, screening, transportation and stockpiling of winter sand for municipal roads.
Public Works Director Larry Lynch told council there were two bids for 4,500 tonnes of sand – 2,000 for the Peel sand shed and 2,500 for the Moorefield sand shed.
The lowest was from Mann Construction, of Guelph, for $5.95 per tonne, while the other came from the Murray Group Limited, of Moorefield, for $6.90 per tonne.
Lynch said the Mann Construction bid represents a decrease of $0.24 per tonne over the 2008 price of $6.19. The total price this year will be $28,833.
“Mann Construction Limited has supplied winter sand to the municipality on numerous occasions with proven ability in this regard,” Lynch told council.
