Centre Wellington council approved the hiring of a London firm recently to do a master plan for parks, recreation, and culture.
The proposal is to help designed a guide for the municipality for ten years, and it will be reviewed every five. The services in the study include:
– recreation services and facilities;
– provision of parks, open space, trails, and environmental areas (woodlots);
– culture and special event services; and
– the study will not be limited to youth, children, adults, seniors, and and persons with disabilities.
The community is going to need a major overhaul of its recreation facilities. For example, Parks and Recreation Director Andie Goldie recently told council that there is no more prime time ice available for the next two years, and tournaments cannot be added or expanded because of the high demand. The cost is just under $48,000 plus GST, and is in this year’s budget.
