ELORA – Centre Wellington council awarded a $1.8 million contract to Network Sewer and Watermain Ltd. to install watermains and sanitary sewers on St. David Street North between Sideroads 18 and 19 and on Sideroad 18 for about 75 metres.
Work on St. David Street North includes restoration of the watermain and sanitary sewer.
On Sideroad 18 the work includes watermain and sanitary restoration as well as adding concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks.
Managing director of infrastructure services Colin Baker told council at its May 25 meeting the work begins just north of the New to You shop and cuts across a section of Little Tree Garden Market.
Funding for the project was already approved, but treasurer Dan Wilson said the financing required some reallocating.
“Overall, the project is within approved funding allocations,” states Wilson’s report.
“However, a reallocation of $365,000 in developer contributions received is required from the wastewater supported portion of this project to the water supported portion.”
That means $239,409 will be reallocated back to the wastewater capital reserve, he said.
Baker said township officials are waiting on a sign permit and a permit to take water and then the project is a go.
“It’s been a long journey for this project,” he said.
Staff is also planning work on St. David Street just north of St. Andrew Street in downtown Fergus, but this is a different project.
