The Wellington North fire department is getting a new pickup truck for its fire prevention officer.
On April 10 Wellington North council approved a request to purchase a $40,000 pickup truck for the fire department’s full-time fire prevention officer.
Fire chief Dave Guilbault first requested a new pick up in 2015 in order to tow a trailer and ATV. The following year, the fire prevention officer was hired full time, and the needs of the vehicle changed, explained Guilbault in his report.
Council approved the capital expense item in the 2017 budget process.
Guilbault said the vehicle is a fire prevention/emergency response fire demo vehicle from Darta Fleet Solutions.
“This vehicle has been outfitted with all emergency equipment and meets the requirements of the fire service. The vehicle would require [decals] and our branding,” the report stated.
Guilbault said he expected to have the vehicle in a few weeks after it is being used in an upcoming fire equipment trade show.
“It looks like it’s completely detailed into what the fire service needs,” said councillor Sherry Burke.
“You’ve obviously done your homework and it looks like it’s going to be able to meet your needs,” added councillor Dan Yake.
Council approved the purchase and waived the purchasing and procurement policy, “recognizing that purchasing a demo vehicle presents a unique purchasing opportunity.”
