Council approves $450,000 road for new school

DRAYTON – Mapleton council has agreed to provide funding of up to $450,000 for a road connecting Conestoga Drive to Green Street in Drayton.

The funding was approved during a closed council session on Aug. 13.

Mayor Gregg Davidson said the road “will help to support the Catholic school and child care centre.”

Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae announced on May 31 that the province has approved $17.3 million in funding for the new school, which is set to accommodate 222 students in kindergarten through Grade 8 and 64 childcare spaces.

The school is expected to open in 2026 and serve students from Mapleton and Minto, where there are currently no Catholic schools.
