The Tim Hortons annual Smile Cookie Campaign, held from Sept. 19 to 25 at retail locations throughout Guelph and Wellington County has raised $39,564 for student nutrition programs provided in these areas.
“I would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who helped to make this year’s campaign such an overwhelming success,” said Kevin Clark, co-owner of the Elora and Fergus Tim Hortons restaurants, with his wife Jane.
Funds raised through this campaign will benefit Food and Friends, a program of the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington.
Through Food and Friends, 80 student nutrition programs operate across Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph, where over 12,000 students receive a healthy breakfast, snack or lunch in a safe and atmosphere.
“Tim Hortons makes it possible for us to provide much-needed funding to our ever-increasing student nutrition programs,” said Anita Macfarlane, community program director for Food and Friends.
“For some children and youth, the meal served in their program is their only food for the day.”
In this year’s Smile Cookie campaign over $25,000 was raised in Guelph while Tim Hortons locations in Mount Forest, Arthur and Harriston raised more than $4,500.
The Clark’s raised $9,684 through their three restaurants, an amount they are proud to see will support children within their home community.
“Raising awareness for Food and Friends through the Smile Cookie campaign opens the door to more community involvement and ensures that the funds raised in our community stays in our community,” said Jane Clark.
“I think that’s something we can all smile about.”
Since 2001, Tim Hortons franchises Wellington County have raised over $230,000 for children in this community.
