As Legion Branch 296 gears up for its 70th anniversary, there will be a bit of international flavour to the event.
The Legion celebrates 70 years of service to its veterans and community.
June 6 also marks the anniversary of D-Day, and Consul Dirk Ter Vrugt has accepted an invitation to represent the Kingdom of the Netherlands at the Harriston Legion celebrations.
At 2pm, he will take part in the Legion parade to the cenotaph and lay a wreath on behalf of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Following the memorial service starting at 2:05pm, a plaque dedication will take place at the main entrance of the Harriston Legion auditorium at 2:45pm.
The Legion’s Maple Leaf room will feature 70 years of history from 3pm to 7pm.
Ter Vrugt will also bring greetings to the members of the Dutch community at the dinner that evening.
Members of the public are invited to attend the Legion events on June 6.
