WELLINGTON COUNTY – Sections of two Wellington County roads were set to reopen on Sept. 2.
A press release from the county’s roads division states it has been working closely with crews and contractors to reopen:
- Wellington Road 7, from Highway 6 to Wellington Road 51 in Guelph/Eramosa; and
- Wellington Road 16 by Sideroad 20 in Centre Wellington.
The release indicates both projects have been completed on time and within the proposed budget, leaving the roads clear for back-to-school and post-summer transportation.
Engineered Concrete of Kitchener completed the bridge rehabilitation of Penfold Bridge on Wellington Road 16 and Cox Construction of Guelph completed asphalt resurfacing and bridge rehabilitation of Marden Creek Bridge on Wellington Road 7.
Starting in 2022, the County of Wellington is planning to spend a total of $340 million over the next 10 years on the road system, as the infrastructure is aging and requires maintenance to preserve adequate and sustainable conditions, county officials state.
“The county would like to thank the travelling public for their cooperation and understanding while we made important improvements and investments in our aging infrastructure,” stated county roads manager Joe de Koning.
