Even though urban residents of Wellington North must use Wellington County user pay bags for local garbage pick-up, there are times when buying those bags can be an issue.
Wellington North councillor Ross Chaulk brought up the matter Monday night after receiving a request from the owner of the Village Variety, in Arthur.
Chaulk said he had received another request from the individual about why the store cannot sell the bags, which are regulated by the county.
The bags are sold through the L&M grocery store.
“It seems small corner stores can’t sell them, even though it is open at times the L&M is not,” he said.
He asked if there is any way Wellington North council could assist the local businessman.
Mayor Mike Broomhead said the owner had asked the same question of him months ago, and was directed to whom he believed to be the correct individuals at the county.
“I’d also said to him if there were any problems, to call me. I never heard from him since. I gave him the information he needed. Maybe they turned him down.”
Chaulk asked what council can do.
“I mean we’re supposed to be helping business people in the community.”
Chaulk said he was not trying to find fault; he was just trying to get it solved.
