East Wellington Community Services has received funding to hire a student for three months.
The person hired will be teaching computers to the public as well as doing data entry and other computer work around the office. Full details are available on the EWCS website. Applicants must be under 30 years of age and have at least one post-secondary education credit.
Big book sale
The first annual used book sale was a huge success.
Bookends volunteers had been collecting books for months and a steady stream of people visited Main Place across the street from the annual fall fair all weekend long.
Costumes
Still looking for a Halloween costume for the kids? The New to You store in Erin has costumes and masks that have recently been donated. Some are being sold for as little as a dollar.
Food drive
The EWCS thank everyone who held a Thanksgiving food drive this year. Whether it was a community group (such as Brisbane Public School, St. John Brebuef, Eramosa Public School, All Saints Church in Erin, St. John’s Anglican Church, Rockwood and Stone United Churches, Rockwood Presbyterian Church, Ospringe Church, Knights of Columbus (Rockwood), and Rockwood Girl Guides) or individuals who dropped off turkeys or if people just cleared out their cupboards.
Thanksgiving is an important time of year for the EWCS food banks.
Members thanked all those who helped with so many pick-ups.
Seniors’ activities
There will be a new seniors day trip for Nov. 9.
The Drayton Festival is putting on a performance of Blue Suede Shoes – A Salute to the Music of Elvis Presley, at the St. Jacobs School House Theatre.
For $62, seniors will ride the bus to enjoy the show.
They will also be stopping at Stone Crock Restaurant for a buffet lunch (cold buffet $10.99 or hot buffet $13.99).
The bus will pick up and drop off at various locations in Erin, Rockwood and Hillsburgh. Space is limited, so call to reserve at 519-833-9696.
