Rockwood sewage pumping station will be upgraded

by Phil Gravelle

BRUCEDALE - The Township of Guelph-Eramosa has approved an upgrade to the Lou’s Boulevard sewage pumping station in Rockwood.

At its Jan. 7 meeting, council awarded the tender to Selectra Inc. for $360,919, including HST. The station, built around 1989, consists of a wet well with two pumps.

While the pumps have been replaced over the years, the piping, electrical supply, controls and monitoring system have deteriorated and needed to be replaced, according to a report by Harry Niemi, director of public works.

Back-up power was not in the original design, but it will be added as part of the upgrade.

The project was identified in the 2013 Water and Wastewater Rate study, at an estimated cost of $417,000.

With engineering design costs spent to date, plus the projected cost for contract administration and inspection during construction, and a contingency allowance, the total project is now estimated at $415,000.

Existing wastewater rates have been set to support this project, through the lifecycle reserve fund.

Selectra’s bid was the lowest of five received. The others (including HST) were Drexler Construction, $404,148; Robert B. Somerville, $406,149; H2Ontario, $468,272; and Baseline Constructors, $522,060.

Guelph-Eramosa does not process Rockwood wastewater – it is pumped to Guelph.
