Helicopter helps nab two suspects after chase

Police have identified a man and woman from Huron-Kinloss arrested and charged near Harriston last week following a police chase through two counties.

On Sept. 4, shortly after 6am, OPP officers from South Bruce and Huron were conducting a criminal investigation in the area of Concession Road 4 at Sideroad 25 South near Teeswater in South Bruce.

Police say officers were conducting containment at that location when a vehicle entered the area being driven “in a dangerous manner.”

The OPP helicopter was called in to assist ground units by monitoring the suspect vehicle’s location.

Units from South Bruce, Huron, Perth, Wellington and other neighbouring police agencies received real-time updates from the helicopter.

“While the vehicle was travelling on Wellington Road 87 towards Harriston it left the roadway and entered a cornfield, attempting to evade the helicopter,” police stated in a press release.

“The flight crew continued to monitor the two suspects as they fled on foot through cornfields and wooded areas.”

OPP officers on the ground, including two canine units, tracked and arrested a male and female suspect near Harriston.

Damien Dallas Yorke-Thomas, 24, of Huron-Kinloss, was held for bail and charged with:

- two counts of flight from police;

- two counts of possession of property obtained by crime (under $5,000);

- two counts of driving while disqualified;

- two counts of dangerous driving;

- assaulting a peace officer with a weapon;

- possession of methamphetamine;

- mischief under $5,000; and

- failing to comply with a probation order.

Heidi Lynne Diemert, 27, of Huron-Kinloss, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime (under $5,000). She is to appear in court on Oct. 9.
