Centre Wellington’s new managing director of community services is Patricia Newson

ELORA - Patricia Newson will be taking over as Centre Wellington’s managing director of community services.

On April 30, Brian Detzler retired from the post.

Council authorized the mayor and clerk to execute a bylaw to appoint Newson, who agreed to fill the vacancy effective May 28.

“We’d like to welcome Pat. She comes from Wingham. I’ve known Pat for a number of years. We’re happy she’s on board and we’ll get her up to speed on things over the next couple of weeks,” said CAO Andy Goldie.

Newson was formerly with the Township of North Huron for the past 12 years as the director of recreation and facilities.

Prior to that, Newson was a managing partner of Tri Fit Inc. in Mississauga.

Newson has also been involved in special events, building operations in multiple municipal facilities including the North Huron Emergency Services Training Centre (ESTC) in Blyth. Her job involved oversight of recreation programs and facilities for North Huron.

Newson also managed many capital projects including the recent large scale renovation of the Blyth Memorial Community Hall. She is past Chair of the South Western Ontario Recreation Facilities Association.

As managing director of community services in Centre Wellington, Newson will manage the township’s parks and recreation, fire, and tourism departments.
