The Laughing Like Crazy stand-up comedy show is bringing its jokes to Guelph.
The Mood Disorders Association of Ontario is offering the show in partnership with the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
“We’re so excited to bring the Laughing Like Crazy showcase to Guelph for the first time. Everyone who has been to one of these shows knows how powerful it is to hear people open up about, and laugh at, the issues they’ve faced with their mental health,” said Ross Knechtel, program coordinator at the Mood Disorders Support Group of Guelph.
The innovative Laughing Like Crazy program empowers participants and audiences alike, breaking down the isolation and stigma around mental illness. The stand-up comedy routines are based on the performer’s experiences with mental health issues and the mental health system. The shows raise awareness, reduce stigma and are an opportunity to create a meaningful dialogue about the impacts of mental health issues on individuals and communities.
The showcase will be held on July 9 from 1 to 3pm at the Evergreen Seniors Community Centre in Guelph. Visit http://guelph-laughing-like-crazy.eventbrite.ca to register.
The event is free but donations are always welcome.
