MINTO – The Town of Minto is has announced that the columbaria built in the Harriston and Palmerston cemeteries are now complete, and the niches are now available for purchase by the public.
In 2018, the Town of Minto hired Hilton Landmarks to provide concept designs for the interment of cremated remains in each of the town’s three cemeteries.
Throughout the fall of 2018, and spring of 2019, the town held public consultation through public meetings in all three urban centres, as well as through collaboration with local funeral homes. In 2021, the town moved forward with ordering two 72-niche columbaria to be delivered and installed in 2022.
Each columbarium has six sides, with each side containing 12 niches, and each niche can hold up to four sets of ashes. As those columbaria neared completion, the Town of Minto reviewed and updated the fees and charges by-law to remove the existing non-resident fee and have one fee schedule for all three cemeteries. The new fees can be found on the Town of Minto’s website.
With the Columbaria now complete, and ready to be used, the town residents who are looking for options after cremation to contact the municipality.
