GUELPH – With the province extending stay-at-home orders until Feb. 19, Hope House is moving its Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser online.
The Guelph-based organization is still holding a fundraiser walk on Feb. 20 but their opening ceremony will have to move online, and participants will have to do their walks on their own, organizers say.
Last year’s Coldest Night of the Year event attracted 364 walkers on 47 teams and raised $105,116.
“We think that in 2021, [we] can surpass that goal in order to help the hurting, hungry and homeless right here in our city,” states a press release.
Organizers are seeking 450 walkers to participate across 60 teams. Currently there are just 24 teams registered.
Participants can walk two or five kilometres, and since it’s virtual, they can choose where to walk.
“By joining a team, you are able to walk together in spirit – even while you cannot physically be together,” organizers say.

All proceeds raised go directly to HOPE House.
