The Erin Optimist Club is hoping some support from the town will help them pull of another success at the second annual Rhythm and Ribs Festival this summer.
Optimist Ron Smith told council last week the inaugural event last year was a great success and the club wants to host the event again on Aug. 13 and 14 of this year.
He explained the festival will again be held at McMillan Park in downtown Erin, and feature two days of musical entertainment, food from local restaurants, and displays by local artisans.
Smith said the club has two requests of the town: the waiving of fees associated with the park gazebo and the tent for serving alcohol, and the donation of $1,000 towards the event – both of which will lower overall costs and thus benefit the community.
He noted all profits made at the event will be used by the club to help support its various community endeavours, most of which involve local youths.
Mayor Lou Maieron said council will consider the request during its budget deliberations, and commended organizers for a good event last year.
“It really brings the community together and promotes the town,” Maieron said.

Also at last week’s meeting, Erin council deferred two other funding requests to the budget process.
The Hillsburgh-Erin Skating Club has asked for help with its annual show and awards banquet, though it did not state a specific amount.
And Erin Radio is seeking a $3,000 donation to help station officials promote its frequency change and ensure residents are aware of the move to 88.1FM.
