CLIFFORD – It was a sunny Saturday morning, when the Clifford and District Horticultural Society (CDHS) celebrated National Tree Day by planting a tree in the Old Rotary Park in Clifford to honour Georgie Hutchison, who passed away in January.
“Georgie was an enthusiastic volunteer and avid gardener,” society officials note.
Minto Mayor Dave Turton outlined some of the many organizations in Clifford that benefitted from her involvement, including Girl Guides, Knox United Church, Historical Fair, Homecoming Celebrations, Newcomers’ Welcome Program and many others.
Current CDHS president Vic Palmer shared personal memories and summarized Hutchison’s leadership with the club’s youth, membership, newsletter, and Communities in Bloom committees – and especially her years as president of the society.
Hutchison’s son Robert and Robert’s wife Tracy represented the family and spoke of the positive personal strengths and attitudes she had in their home life.
After adding mulch around the bur oak and installing a sign reading, “In Memory of Georgie Hutchison,” the family members joined the group for snacks and conversation at the Rotary Pavilion.
