While investigators from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office wrapped up their on-site investigation of the Classy Lane Stables horse barn fire, it could be three to four months before an official cause is determined.
On Jan. 7, investigators handed the scene back to owners Jamie and Barb Millier.
Wayne Romaine, field investigations supervisor for the Fire Marshal’s office, told the media the fire burned for a substantial amount of time, which impacts the investigators’ ability to determine a cause.
Three investigators and one forensic engineer took part in the investigation on Jan. 6. Romaine is confident his office will be able to classify the fire, either as undetermined, accidental or the result of human intervention.
The current focus is on electrical components and the propane delivery system, he stated. The barn had a sub-floor heating system fueled by propane.
