Church showcasing Casavant organ, silent film screening

St. George’s Church in Guelph will host unique Halloween weekend event on Oct. 28.

There will be a screening of the original 1925 silent film The Phantom of the Opera, accompanied by live music in St. George’s Church.

Guest organist William O’Meara will provide patrons with an entertaining evening of improvised playing on the church’s historic Casavant pipe organ.

The St. George’s organ has recently undergone an extensive upgrade and Dr. Gerry Manning, director of music, is eager to “pull out all the stops.”

Proceeds from the show will support the music program at St. George’s, which includes not only the Casavant pipe organ, but a Choral Scholars program and the Guelph Connections Concert Series.

Tickets are available at a variety of price points. Premium tickets are $40, choice tickets are $30 and value tickets are $20.

A limited number of tickets are also available for $60 which includes a Champagne reception beforehand, to meet O’Meara and get a close-up look at the Casavant.

Wine and sparkling water will also be available for purchase before the show.

The Champagne reception begins at 7pm. Doors open for general seating at 7:30pm with the show beginning at 8pm sharp.
