Chilifest on helps beats the chills of February, supports local community

Chilifest organizers are urging local residents to dig in to some great chili and support a great cause.

Feb. 9 marks the 21st anniversary Chilifest which supports the Community Resource Centre of North and Centre Wellington.

This year’s event runs from 11:30am to 1:30pm at the Fergus Legion.

Ron MacKinnon executive director of the Community Resource Centre says “guests will be treated to a Chili lunch prepared by our amazing group of volunteers and staff.”

Entertainment will be by Kara Shaw of Shaw Music Studios.

The $10 meal includes meat or veggie chili, coleslaw, a roll, drink and desert.

In addition, there’s a chance to win the 50/50 cash draw, toonie table or silent auction.

For those who cannot leave work to make it to the lunchtime meal, delivery is available.

New this year is a take-out dinner option between 4:30 and 6:30pm. (There will not be a sitdown option within the Legion at that timeslot.)

As to the afternoon takeout option, MacKinnon explains “Simply pull up to the side of the Legion and honk. One of our staff will come out to fill your order.”

He adds “we are hoping people will take advantage of this new part of Chilifest.”

For more information on takeout or delivery call 519-843-7000 ex.6 or email chilifest@communityresourcecentre.org.

MacKinnon stated, “All proceeds go to our Outreach and Support program which works with those struggling in our community. Staff do this through financial assistance, information and referrals, support and advocacy, transportation, program support for children, Income tax, housing support, case management as well as government advocacy and Information.   Our staff work with families and individuals to develop a plan to move forward. We support and assist with this plan in any way we can.”
