MAPLETON – A barn northwest of Moorefield was destroyed by fire on Tuesday morning.
Deputy fire chief Callise Loos said four stations responded to the blaze, on Concession 8 between Sideroad 6 and Robb Street, on Feb. 25 at about 10:30am.
She explained a passerby noticed flames coming from the side of the 200-foot chicken barn and called the fire department.
“There was smoke and flame visible on arrival. There [were] approximately 40 firefighters from four stations on scene,” Loos stated in a press release.

In an update she stated, “The first arriving crews made an aggressive attack on the seat of the fire and helped knock it down …
“Crews from the front and rear of the structure continued to hold the fire until an excavator arrived on scene to take apart the barn and extinguish hotspots.”
Loos told the Advertiser there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters, adding the barn was empty at the time so no chickens were lost.
“The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time but is not considered suspicious,” she stated.
“The damage has not been set but the barn will be a significant loss.”
Loos thanked firefighters from Minto and North Perth for their assistance.
