Check out local food and farms on Fall Rural Romp

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Harvest season just might be the perfect time to check out some local farms, and people will have an opportunity to do just that during the annual Taste Real Fall Rural Romp.

The event, which takes place on Sept. 28 from 10am to 4pm, is a self-guided farm and food tour featuring more than 20 local food and farm destinations in the southern part of the county – from wineries and breweries to greenhouses and nurseries to farmers’ markets and more.

“Wellington County has a rich agricultural landscape,” county economic development committee chair councillor Jeff Duncan said in a news release. “The Rural Romp offers a unique opportunity for our local farms and food businesses to showcase the excellent work that they do, engage with our community, and provide family-friendly ways to experience the bounty of our region.”

Romp destinations are located in Centre Wellington, Erin, Guelph/Eramosa, Puslinch and Guelph, and each has something unique to offer. Activities include farm tours, wagon rides, food sampling, farm animals, greenhouse visits, nature hikes, corn mazes, kids’ games and hands-on activities.

“We are excited to have an incredible diversity of romp locations this year, promising an exciting mix of experiences for all participants, no matter where you end up,” county manager of economic development Christina Mann stated in the release.

“Rompers will have plenty of opportunities to discover delicious local food and drink, embrace the fall season through immersive farm experiences, and connect with Wellington County’s agricultural traditions.”

Participants are encouraged to complete the Rural Romp Treasure Hunt by answering questions at each location for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to a local food business.
