The sixth annual Chase the Tornado 10km and 5km is coming soon to scenic Grand Valley.
Well-marked and accurate, this 10km circuit is designed for runners. For the past five years, one hundred participants ran through town from the community centre on Main Street, then followed the path of the tornado of 30 years ago down Amaranth Street, through open countryside, alongside the Grand River, over bridges and 1.6 km of the Upper Grand trailway. By adding youth teams, the combination of 10km run, 5km run/walk and free kids’ fun run makes it an all ages event.
Add a free lunch provided by Grand Valley Food Town and smoothies provided by Pita Pit – Orangeville for a truly fun family affair. The kids’ fun run kicks off at 9:30am. Runners and walkers start at 10am. The entry fee is $40 in advance and $50 on race day with reduced pricing for youth teams at $20. Participants receive a custom finishers’ medal and compete for prizes, including a cash reward for breaking the course record. Thanks to our sponsors Thomasfield Homes, Grand Valley Wind Farms, RBC Royal Bank, myFM 101.5, Grand Valley Guardian, Quality Homes, Sally Franco Real Estate, Running Free, Velofix, Natural Health Care Centre, and many local business for draw prizes.
The event is presented by Run Dufferin, a community running group. Proceeds support getting youth active through running and local trails. Every year Run Dufferin partners with Upper Grand Trailway Association (UGTA) and Grand Valley Minor Hockey (GVMHA). UGTA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the trailway’s history and natural environment for the betterment of the community of Grand Valley and surrounding area. GVMHA is dedicated to fun, fair play, and good Sportsmanship, and supports the OMHA Initiation Program for beginners, girls development teams, OMHA competitive teams, and local league teams.
